I hope you actually see this Jenn. I have been on tumblr in so long and now that i’m on i decided to look at everything you guys have posted since i’ve last been on. I couldn’t help but reblog this and add my own opinion. I’m not saying to change your point of view but rather, don’t knock it down until you.. idk how to explain it.
I want to mention 2 things. The first that i want to mention is that there are many people that do prostitution because they themselves enjoy it, just like teachers like teaching and why other people have the jobs that they have. Many people see it as a pleasurable buisiness, no pun intended. Some people see prostitution the way that i see photography. The second point has much more theory behind it. I love and hate to bring up Marx, but i believe that he has a very valid point. What is the difference between a prostitute and a housewife? Almost, absolutely nothing. When a woman is marrying a man she is handed off by her father to whom she is marrying. The father gives he body to the man, it goes from the posession of one man to another, not letting the woman take control of her own body. She is disempowered even more, stripped of the very little power she had while single, when she is given to the man she is about to marry. There is a trade in marriage. The wife gives her body to the man, to please the man and to give the man children. She does this in order to live and eat. She gives up her body for shelter. Marx calls the married woman a “private prostitute” rather than a “public prostitute”. I just want you to think about that for a bit. You should also read an older tumblr post of mine (which won’t be hard to find since i haven’t posted much) on prostitution in Latin America. Hope you actually read this whole thing. Also, the problem about making prostitution illegal is also the problem that arises in making abortion illegal, you are stripping the person away from the power to control they’re bodies and handing the power to the state. The state has no need to control a person’s body.
